The Wayne County Probate Court is at 1305 Coleman A. Young Municipal Center, 2 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48226. The main phone number is (313) 224-5685. Register April K. Maycock heads the court. Her email is amaycock@wcpc.us. The filing office is on the 13th floor of the CAYMC building. Courtrooms sit on the 12th and 13th floors. The Behavioral Health division is on the 9th floor in Room 902. Hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with a lunch break from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Any filings dropped off after hours get stamped for the next business day.
Wayne County is part of the 3rd Circuit Court, the largest circuit in Michigan. The probate court is separate from the circuit court but they share the same building complex. Under MCL 700.1302, the probate court has exclusive jurisdiction over estates, trusts, guardianships, and conservatorships. Searching Wayne County Probate Records Online
Wayne County has its own case search tool on the court website. Look for the Case Access tab. You can search by name, case number, date range, or case type. Results show a case summary, party names, events, docket entries, financial info, and disposition details. This is a solid tool for finding Wayne County probate court records without leaving home. It covers a wide range of case types and has good detail on each filing.
The 3rd Circuit Court also has its own search tool through Odyssey Public Access. This covers circuit court cases in Wayne County. If a probate matter was transferred to circuit court or there is a related civil case, you may find records in Odyssey too. The two systems are not linked, so search both if you are looking for everything tied to a person or estate.
The statewide MiCOURT Case Search is a third option. Pick Wayne County and the probate court type. Enter a name or case number. This is useful as a backup if the county site is down or slow. Between these three tools, most Wayne County probate court records filed in recent years should be findable.

Wayne County Probate Record Fees and Copies
Copies of Wayne County probate court records cost $2 per page. Certified copies are $11 for the first page and $1 for each extra page. Transcripts cost $1.75 per page for the original and $0.30 per page for additional copies. Wayne County charges a 3.5% fee for electronic payments, with a minimum charge of $3. If you pay with cash or check at the counter, there is no extra charge.
You can get copies in person at the filing office on the 13th floor of the CAYMC building. Bring the case number or at least the full name of the person. What Wayne County Case Access Shows
The Wayne County Probate Court Case Access tool shows quite a bit. Each case listing includes a summary, all named parties, a timeline of events, docket entries, financial details, and the disposition. You can track a case from the first filing through the final order. This is more detail than many county systems offer, and it makes Wayne County probate court records easier to research from a computer.
There are limits. Confidential documents do not show. Sealed cases are hidden. Settlement agreements, death certificates, and Letters of Authority issued after August 2019 are not available through the online tool. The system also does not display addresses, Social Security numbers, or phone numbers. Records from before 1976 are not in the database. For those older files, you need to contact the court directly or visit in person.
Wayne County Estate Filings
Estate cases make up a huge part of Wayne County probate court records. With the state's largest population, Wayne County sees more estate filings than any other county. When a resident dies, the estate may need to go through probate. Michigan law under MCL 700.1101 controls the process through the Estates and Protected Individuals Code. Informal probate uses Form PC 558. Formal probate uses Form PC 559. Filing fees range from about $150 to $210.
Small estates in Wayne County worth $15,000 or less can use an affidavit under MCL 700.3982 and avoid opening a full case. The inventory fee is separate and set by MCL 600.871. It is based on the total estate value. Small estates pay just a few dollars. Larger ones pay hundreds. These fees go to the court on top of the filing cost.
Wayne County estate files hold the will, petition, letters of authority, inventories, creditor claims, accountings, and final orders. All of these are public records under MCR 8.119.

Guardianship Records in Wayne County
The Wayne County Probate Court handles a large number of guardianship and conservatorship cases each year. Guardians are appointed for minors and for adults who cannot take care of themselves. Conservators manage money and property. Case files include petitions, medical reports, bond paperwork, annual reports, and court orders. Most of these records are open to the public. Mental health records are restricted.
To file a guardianship case in Wayne County, use Form PC 625 for adults or Form PC 603 for minors. Conservatorship petitions use Form PC 630. All forms are free at the SCAO probate forms page. The Behavioral Health division on the 9th floor at Room 902 handles mental health commitments separately. Those cases have their own procedures and stricter privacy rules.
